About The Weekly
Q. What kind of name is The Weekly?
A. True to the name, The Weekly is a weekly publication that focuses on the week that was, along with the week ahead. Plus, we’re tired of everything being named “Badger this” and “Badger that.”
Q. What’s in it?
A. Official news and information for students compiled by University Communications. We share the best and most useful news that we produce and from around the campus web. We also aim to make it interesting and help you learn something you didn’t know.
Q. Who receives The Weekly?
A. All students. That’s a total of 42,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
Q. I’m not on the list. How do I get it?
A. Anyone can receive a free subscription, including parents or university faculty and staff, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and responding to the confirmation message as directed.
Q. I didn’t subscribe to The Weekly. Can I unsubscribe?
A. This is awkward. The Weekly is delivered over email to all students, similar to messages from the chancellor and dean of students. There isn’t a way to opt out. As an alternative, you are welcome to delete it or establish a filter on your WiscMail.
Social Media in The Weekly
Q. How do I get my tweet into the Get Social column?
A. Tweet something awesome to @UWMadison. It might be a photo, an idea, a goof or a thank you. Tell us why you love this place. Catch our eyes.
Q. I don’t use Twitter. Why so much of it in The Weekly?
A. UW-Madison is one of the most active social media campuses in the country and Twitter might be the best social media platform going. It’s a great way to share thoughts, pictures and information.
Q. How are Trending Now topics determined?
A. A highly scientific formula.
Getting The Weekly
Q. When is The Weekly distributed?
A. We’ll reach you every Wednesday during the academic year.
Q. I’m having a hard time viewing The Weekly. Can you fix it?
A. The HTML-based images and formatting of The Weekly will display correctly in the vast majority of mail programs, including Thunderbird, Outlook, Mail.app, web-based WiscMail and common POP mail services such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail. However, older versions of some programs, notably Lotus Notes, may not render all of the formatting correctly.
Q. How do I see the images in The Weekly?
A. Your mail program may prevent images from loading automatically. Many programs provide the option to “display images automatically.”
Q. Who produces The Weekly?
A. Student staff in University Communications at UW–Madison. However, editions will always be sent from the digitally signed address email@example.com.
Getting in The Weekly
Q. How do I get coverage from The Weekly for my organization/cause/cool idea/event?
A. Drop us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’re definitely interested in your thoughts and will try to help, but we can’t promise coverage. Many of the same publicity principles that apply to Inside UW also apply here.
Q. Can I advertise in The Weekly?
A. Yes, if you’re on campus. Contact our ads staff (which also manages advertising for Inside UW.)
