Your guide to holiday fun on and around campus

With less than a month left of the semester, there are plenty of ways to get into the holiday spirit while still here on campus. Here are some things to do while taking a break from studying for finals and writing papers:

More mental health counselors available at UHS

More counselors are available at University Health Services to better fit students needs, in particular mental health needs related to diversity and climate. Drop in anytime Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 pm. for an access consultation.

What’ll it be — Rose, or Peach perhaps?

The Badgers will square off Saturday against the Penn State Nittany Lions for the Big 10 Championship. At stake will be a spot in the Rose Bowl, or perhaps even a semifinal bowl in the college football playoff — Peach or Fiesta. Here's how to get tickets and a look at the Badger bowl history.

Completion delayed for Near West Playfield upgrade

The Division of Recreational Sports has announced a delay in the completion of the Near West Playfield upgrade project.  The completion was estimated to be the week of Thanksgiving, but now will finish in the spring.

The UW-Madison Badgerloop team will reveal its Hyperloop pod for SpaceX's track at an open house from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the Discovery Building. Try out the tube-based, high-speed transport through a virtual reality station.

Volunteering is good for your health

Volunteering helps other people, but it also helps you. Students who volunteered up to 10 hours each week were less likely to feel depressed than students who did not volunteer, according to a study. Working, on the other hand, made no difference.
