Improve final papers with an assist from the Writing Center

The final day of class is exactly one month from today. If you're like most people, you have at least one final paper or written assignment that you're trying to get a handle on. Take a minute to get tips from Mike Shapiro, TA Coordinator at the Writing Center, who talks about common mistakes and how to get help with your writing.

Lincoln: UW experts talk man vs. movie

On Friday, director Steven Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln,” with Irish actor Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role, opens in theaters. UW-Madison experts discussed the depiction of presidents in the movies and what today’s leaders could learn from a president that almost seems to be more monument than man.

Help invent the future of wireless technology

The Qualcomm Wireless Innovation Prize invites students to develop new wireless technology products and marry those ideas with tangible, market-ready business plans. All UW-Madison undergraduates and pre-dissertation graduate students are eligible to compete for prizes of $10,000 (first), $5,000 (second) and $2,500 (third). Register by Friday, November 16, 2012.

UW Metro riders may be required to show ID

Heads-up: Madison Metro will step up enforcement of the requirement that riders using its unlimited-use pass show a Wiscard when using city routes to and from campus.

‘Kickstarter for science’ to support UW sea turtle research

Geography Ph.D student Samantha Greene is trying to help leatherback sea turtles. She's using a unique approach to fund her project: raising support via social media and crowd-funding.
