Quiz corner thinks 1956 was a pretty great year for alumni

Did you recognize this bud of Bud? (Selig, that is.) Try your luck at this week’s quiz question and win free swag.

Last week’s question:

Bud Selig has a good friend whose name is central to a certain part of campus. This fellow 1956 alum also happens to be Selig’s college roommate, fraternity brother and childhood neighbor. Who is this well-known Wisconsinite?

The answer is Herb Kohl, former U.S. Senator and Kohl Center donor.

In 2014, both Herb Kohl and Bud Selig received the WAA’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Not bad for a couple of guys from around the corner. Both have contributed immensely to sports in Wisconsin — and a whole lot more.

Just look at these two guys, so fresh-faced and ready to take on the world! Knowing Herb’s frugal ways, he probably still has that tie.

This week’s winners are Jessica Gorzelitz-Liebhauser and Sara Bonefas, chosen at random from all correct responses. Congrats! You can come to 28 Bascom Hall to pick up your prize: a fabulous UW coffee mug.

This week’s question:

The Varsity Band Concert brings hundreds of performers (and thousands of sequins, and untold amounts of confetti) to the Kohl Center this week. Director Mike Leckrone enters on a different vehicle each year, but it’s usually from the same general place. How does he arrive?

Please submit your answer in a comment below (don’t worry; it’s invisible to other commenters) by Friday, 11:59 p.m.

Good luck, and thanks for reading!
