Official news and info for your week at UW-Madison August 31, 2016

A welcome message is pictured written on a classroom chalkboard during a Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) session for incoming first-year undergraduates at Sterling Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on June 22, 2016. Sponsored by the Center for the First-Year Experience, the two-day SOAR sessions provide new students and their parents and guests an opportunity to meet with staff and advisors, register for classes, stay in a residence hall, take a campus tour and learn about campus resources. An Olympian welcome back to campus

Dean of Students Lori Berquam's dreams of Rio may have fallen short, but she'll do whatever she can to make students welcome on campus. Now if only she could only fix that broken window in the Chancellor's Office.

What’s red and white and gold all over?

While you were busy with summer jobs and classes, our Badger Olympians spent August competing in Rio with the world's best athletes. Gwen Jorgensen led the way, but we had lots of stars.

Campus Life

UW students and members of the Madison community participate in a JVN Day Festival event that included activities such as sidewalk chalking and creating a graffiti mural on East Campus Mall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Aug. 28, 2016. The JVN Day Festival is an annual event to honor the memory of UW-Madison student John Vietnam Nguyen who drowned while trying to save a friend on Lake Mendota. Back to life: A splash of color, the roll of move-in carts

Take a look: Students went off with the spray paint on Sunday on East Campus Mall, creating a graffiti mural Sunday as part of JVN Day festivities.  Meanwhile, more than 7,500 students are moving into university residence halls this week, as they prepare to kick off the semester.
