Breaking news: The Terrace is open!

The Memorial Union Terrace is open and the chairs have returned. An annual rite of spring in Madison, the iconic orange, green and yellow sunburst chairs’ arrival signifies the official end to winter and is a harbinger of sunny skies, warm breezes and great views of Lake Mendota.

UW-Winterfell: Carillon version of Game of Thrones theme goes viral

A video of the Carillon Tower playing the Game of Thrones theme song has quickly become an Internet sensation, with coverage from Jezebel, Entertainment Weekly and Vanity Fair — and nearly 400,000 web views from around the world. Carillonneur Lyle Anderson has been playing for nearly 30 years and this is his first theme song.

They poured in by the hundreds: the stories, faces and moments of #UWRightNow. They came from across the globe – Taipei, Ghana, the Czech Republic, Australia and more – and from hometown classrooms that were a sanctuary from the cold rain on Bascom Hill. Campus energy conservation, recycling show gains

UW is celebrating ongoing strides toward improving campus sustainability. Energy conservation and recycling efforts put in place during the past several years are continuing to pay off.

New living, learning community to welcome biology students

To help biology majors get off to the right start, as many as 130 students will begin 2014 in BioHouse, the university’s 10th residential learning community. Residents will use biology-themed social activities and a seminar course to explore the interdisciplinary nature of cutting-edge bioscience research and career opportunities.
