Things are going to get weird: Holm to speak at graduation

"Workaholics" actor and writer Anders Holm, a 2003 UW alum, will be the speaker for spring commencement ceremonies on May 18 and 19. Holm says his first reaction to being told he has been selected as commencement speaker was, “Those crazy Badgers, what are they getting themselves into?”

Ask. Listen. Save. aims to connect with students in need

Senior Claire Kaufman started a group with a lofty goal: To fight the stigma of talking about mental illness and increase UW students' awareness of suicide prevention. Her efforts include being part of a team that's organizing the UW Suicide Prevention Walk that will be held Sunday, April 21.

Recognizing exceptional students, mentors

The 15th Annual Undergraduate Symposium, which recognizes what students have accomplished with the personal involvement of their faculty and staff mentors, will be held Thursday, April 18, at Union South. It is one of the highlights of the spring Ideas to Excellence series of campus events focused on undergraduates.

Biennial neon exhibition lights up the night

UW-Madison has often hosted luminous displays of sculpture by artists from across the country, all using the medium of light. This year, the invitational 2013 Biennial Neon and Light Exhibition will take place from 6-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20. Held at the indoor Stock Pavilion, 1675 Linden Drive, the exhibit is lit only by the art itself.

Shave your head to support cancer research

Want to make a statement in support of cancer research? On May 3, in the Atrium of the Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC), students and community members will gather to show their collective support for cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and patient care at American Family Children's Hospital.

Achievements

More than jump free throws: Evans honored with huge award

Wisconsin senior Ryan Evans has been named the 2013 Arthur Ashe Jr. Male Sports Scholar of the Year by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.'s commitment to education as well as athletics, the Sports Scholars Awards honor students of color who have made academic and athletic achievement a winning combination.
